Into the woods we go. Leaving behind our cottage, it was time to visit the beach. To get there, we followed foot trails that weave their way through a rain forest. It was here we walked in silence through an oasis of rain-laden pine, fern, and moss.
Overall we had ventured into an other-worldly light. . . all senses fine-tuned. Within this are moments of quiet reflection. Of time without end. This is nature speaking to us. And we listen intently like a robin to a worm.
Gradually, we're pleasantly greeted with breathtaking views. Left and right, lush rugged cliffs topped with windswept trees. In front of us, ocean waves rise then plunge onto the wet hard packed beach. At once, I'm struck by that strong and nostalgic reaction to explore like a child this mysterious beauty.
And after hours beachcombing while enduring fingers of sea spray and misty raindrops on our faces, we tramp back to our cottage via these stairs. Grown cold and wet, I'm anticipating hot cups of tea and cozy chairs set before a wood fire. Meanwhile, the tide drifts inland.
And so, although our seaside getaway sadly short, we'll definitely return to Seabrook.
